The 2016 Ovens and King Football Netball League will again be littered with early blockbusters with the league kick starting next season on the Easter weekend.
Long time rivals Moyhu and Greta will continue their recent tradition of Good Friday games by opening the season on March 25 while Bonnie Doon and Benalla All Blacks will lock horns on the same day. Easter Saturday will see Bright and King Valley host matches against Tarrawingee and reigning premier Glenrowan respectively.
The opening round will conclude the following week with Milawa and Whorouly to go up against each other while North Wangaratta travels to face Goorambat & District.
In other matches sure to attract plenty of attention, Glenrowan will unveil its 2015 premiership flag at home against Greta in round two while the Kelly Tigers will also host arch rival Milawa on Anzac Day in round 4.
League general manager Jeremy Wilson said compiling the draw was quite difficult this year but he was happy with the final product.
“As is the case each year, there are winners and losers when it comes to the draw. We’ve tried to make it as even as possible but obviously with club requests, it makes it hard sometimes to please everyone,” he said.
“It’s great that we have four games across Easter to really showcase Ovens and King football and netball while we expect another big crowd for the Anzac Day game between Milawa and Glenrowan.
“Now that the draw is out, clubs can start planning. It’s just over three months now until things kick off so it isn’t far away.”
