GLENROWAN’S quest for an historic three-peat of Ovens and King flags remains on track, with the Kelly Tigers revitalising their list once more with an injection of young talent.
The Tigers are looking to become the first team to win three straight senior premierships since Greta achieved the feat nearly 50 years ago (1965-67), and young guns Mitch Kilner, Bryce Ralph and James Hooke are determined to help the cause.
Glenrowan co-coach Nigel Robinson said the introduction of the three former Wangaratta Rovers would enable the Tigers to maintain the course they have been plotting over the past three years.
“All along we’ve wanted sustainable success for the club, and to do that you need to be able to attract young, local players who are going to come in and be a part of the club’s culture,” Robinson said.
“You bring young kids into the club and they give everyone a lift, because everything they do they give 100 per cent.
“They are going to fit in perfectly, because they are all enthusiastic to play senior footy, and Glenrowan is a club that gives players opportunities.
“They will come in and play alongside some very good players who will help them develop their own games.
“They are quality boys, but also quality players – Mitch won the Rovers thirds best and fairest last year and Ralphy won it this year.”
