THE departure of half a dozen premiership stars has done little to derail Glenrowan’s quest for a third straight Ovens and King Football League flag.
Corey Munro, Mick Monteith and Al Pike have joined the likes of dual premiership skipper Lachie Cohen, 2014 O&K Team of the Year member Scott Bradley and stocky midfielder Roy Dyson as confirmed outs.
Kelly Tigers co-coach Nigel Robinson said the losses hurt, but not to the extent that might be imagined.
“There is a bit of class leaving the side, but we never try to hold onto players once they decide it’s time to move on,” Robinson said.
“Corey Munro is Glenrowan through and through – he has gone to start work in Queensland as an electrician, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me to see him come back at some stage, because he loves the club.
“Mick Monteith is a very good player, but we were lucky to have him at all last year as he spent a good chunk of the season overseas.
“And Al Pike just had a very unlucky run at the club – when he did his knee (in 2013) they took part of his hamstring to make the graft, but that really restricted him in the end.”
