IN the battle between the two undefeated teams of the Ovens and King competition on Sunday, Tarrawingee overcame the star power of Milawa to run out 17-point victors.
In a tight opening quarter, with a clear motive of both sides to win the contested football, the attack on the ball never wavered as both sides searched for the ascendancy.
The Demons booted the first two goals of the game, aided by the wind that blew down the ground to the highway end of the oval, while keeping the Bulldogs to just three points at the first break.
The Demons fell a rotation short when wingman Tim Allan was stretchered off with a lower leg injury.
The Bulldogs barked back to the lead in the second term with four goals while restricting the Demons to two majors.
The pressure from both sides forced turnovers and Tarrawingee’s ability to hit targets going forward proved the difference in the quarter.
After halftime, the Bulldogs were kicking against the wind, and as the game opened up to a more attacking style, they capitalised.
Moving the ball through the middle of the ground with a chain of handballs and line breaking runs, the Bulldogs outscored Milawa 3.2 to 1.1 for the period.
