A TOUGH game of football was played at Whorouly Recreation Reserve, seeing the home side roar back in the final term to secure the 12-point victory over Benalla All Blacks.
The game was played tightly all day, with a goal separating the sides at quarter time, and the pressure from both sides high.
The pressure didn’t drop off in the second term, as the Panthers narrowed the gap through superior kicking going forward, and forcing through four goals to edge within one point at the main break.
Continuing with their momentum from the second quarter the Panthers slammed on another four goals to the Lions’ three to take a four-point lead into the final break.
After the three quarter time message, the Lions flicked the switch and stormed home keeping the Panthers to 1.5 and kicking 4.3 themselves to secure the 12-point win, the Lions’ second in a row.
Lions coach Nathan Hooper said the following of the team’s structures allowed his side to overcome the Panthers.
“Benalla are a very handy side, they have recruited well, and are playing good football,” Hooper said.
