OVENS and King interleague open netball side overcame the might of Tallangatta and District to run out three goal winners in a thrilling game on Saturday.
Featuring a solid mix of experience and youthful talent, the O&K side took on a seasoned Tallangatta DNL team, with the pace of the game exciting from the opening centre pass.
There were no signs of nerves from either league, with a ‘feeling out’ period in the opening five minutes of the game as both teams attacked freely.
Both the Tallangatta shooters of Hayley Penny and Sharla Sutcliffe and O&K shooters in Emma Witham and Kaylee Seymour started well, feeding off their midcourt players by getting into the good positions early, and finishing at a high rate to take the lead.
It wasn’t until O&K captain Bec Duryea registered her first intercept of the game that the defensive presence really stepped up.
The defensive pressure made the Tallangatta side work harder, but more efficiently and soon things fell into place for the visiting side to take a 14-13 lead into the first break.
