THE local sporting community is getting behind North Wangaratta Football Netball Club following the recent closure of the Hawks’ home ground.
AFL North East Border regional manager John O’Donohue said a number of arrangements had already been made to ensure the club could continue to operate, with North Wangaratta Recreation Reserve expected to be unavailable for the remainder of the season.
The Hawks used Wangaratta Rangers Baseball Club’s Targoora Park facilities for their Monday night training session this week, and will be at the WJ Findlay Oval tonight – arrangements that will continue on for as long as necessary.
“We’ve seen a lot of good will from other clubs to help out North Wangaratta,” O’Donohue said.
“They have had to change their training nights from Tuesday/Thursday to Monday/Wednesday, but the fact they have grounds to train on now is a great step forward.
“We have also arranged for North Wangaratta to have its club headquarters in the umpires’ rooms (at the Wangaratta Showgrounds), and we’ve put together a bit of a wish list in terms of things we need to bring that up to standard.
“Things like fridges, tables and chairs – things most clubs would just take for granted.
“There will also be administrative support provided for the club to minimise the burden on their volunteers.”
