Jeremy Wilson kicked five goals for the Ovens and King against Tallangatta.
JEREMY Wilson and Corey Smith put the Tallangatta league to the sword last week and Moyhu is hoping the pair can do the same when the Hoppers host Milawa on Saturday.
Wilson (five goals) and Smith (four) formed a lethal combination in the Ovens and King league’s impressive representative win and the pair will join forces again as the Hoppers look to maintain their advantage in the top six.
It will be Smith’s first match in green and gold for three weeks after serving a two-match suspension for striking following the Hoppers’ disappointing 49-point defeat at the hands of Bright in round five.
With 33 majors to his name from five matches, Smith was leading the competition goalkicking before his ban and Moyhu assistant coach Michael Kreun hopes the former Corowa-Rutherglen and CDHBU player can pick up where he left off against fourth-placed Milawa.
Smith is likely to be picked up representative teammate Ray Ussher while Kreun said the battle between Brent Newton and Anthony Welsh would go a long way towards deciding the result.
“It’s a big game, that’s for sure,” he said.
“We’re sitting sixth at the moment and we really need to take a few scalps to prove to the league that we’re finals ready and finals contenders.”
King Valley is breathing down the Hoppers’ neck on the ladder but the Roos face a tough encounter against second-placed Bonnie Doon at Whitfield.
In other matches, Greta and North Wangaratta will be chasing their first victories of the season at Greta, Goorambat and District hosts Bright, Tarrawingee should remain undefeated against Benalla All Blacks and Glenrowan looks too strong for Whorouly
