DOGS MADE TO DO IT TOUGH: TARRAWINGEE coach Trevor Edwards made sure his Goorambat counterpart Shayne McKean earned his kicks on Saturday. In a game that was tight from start to finish, the Bulldogs prevailed to keep their unbeaten run going. PHOTO: Luke Plummer
A DOGGED Goorambat forced Tarrawingee to earn its ninth straight win on the weekend, with the Bulldogs doing just enough to come away with a six-point victory.
It was wet out at the Kennel, and the Dogs seemed to have the edge early, taking a two-goal buffer into the quarter time huddle.
But the Bats weren’t there just to make up numbers, and they fought tooth and nail to get back into the contest, just two points adrift at three quarter time.
With Sam Peters, Jordan Solimo, Jai Canny and Daniel McCormick driving their side forward, Tarrawingee peppered the goals early in the final term for little reward before Cam Kennedy slotted a major, establishing a 12-point buffer with 10 minutes to play.
Cameron Symes got one back late for Goorambat to reduce the deficit to one straight kick, but the Bulldogs held firm over the final two minutes to ensure victory was theirs.
Coach Trevor Edwards paid credit to the efforts of Solimo and Peters, along with Canny who was playing just his second match for the year.
“Jordy is starting to thrive on the midfield depth we have now,” Edwards said.
“We have relied very heavily on him over the past few years and that has taken its toll on him.”
