FINALS may still be six weeks away, but the first significant shots in the battle for the Ovens and King premiership were fired on Saturday at Bonnie Doon as the Bombers handed Tarrawingee its first loss for the year.
It was an extraordinary performance from the Bombers, who trailed by 22 points at halftime, having only kicked the one goal to that point.
But, led by brothers Scott and Matt Swindells, as well as Kaine Herbert, Daniel Godsmark and Justin Colliss, Bonnie Doon piled on 10 goals to three after the long break to run away with a 19-point victory.
Early on it was the Kyle Raven show, as Tarrawingee’s spearhead gobbled up everything that came his way courtesy of the midfield dominance of Jordan Solimo and Daniel Salmon.
Raven took five marks in the opening term, earned one free kick for catching Godsmark dead to rights, and finished the period with a personal tally of 4.2 as the Bulldogs built an 18-point buffer.
