Nick Lebish and Jai Dykstra celebrate a Bright goal
BRIGHT kept its finals hopes alive with a gutsy win over rival Whorouly on Saturday.
The Mountain Men retained sixth place on the ladder, despite King Valley’s win over Moyhu, by beating the Lions by 17 points at Pioneer Park.
The home side weren’t in the position they would have hoped for at halftime, in veteran midfielder Steve Nightingale’s 200th senior match, with just a five-point lead after gaining a 13-point advantage at the first break.
However, Bright battled ahead in the third term with midfielders Ben Henwood, Nick Lebish and Jai Dykstra leading the way.
With the match still in the balance at the last change the Mountain Men fired early in the fourth term.
They added three goals in the first five minutes of the quarter to extend the margin beyond six goals but the Lions continued to fight as they did when the two met in round two.
