The Ovens & King Football Netball League is excited to officially released the 2019 fixture, which offers plenty
of exciting matches and some value for each club involved.
The 2019 season will launch on the 30th of March, which will also see the return of OKFNL football & netball to
the North Wangaratta Recreation Reserve, with the Hawks set to host Whorouly. Other enticing matches to
kick start the season include a rematch of the 2018 preliminary final between Milawa and Benalla All Blacks,
2018 premiers Tarrawingee hosting Glenrowan and expected ladder climbers King Valley and Bright at the
Whitfield Recreation Reserve.
With Easter falling later in 2019, clubs and spectators will need to wait till round four to see their traditional
Good Friday and Easter Saturday matches, with matches again at popular holiday spots, King Valley, Bright and
Bonnie Doon. Round four will also be a split round, capturing ANZAC day and the following weekend.
Glenrowan and Milawa will resume their ANZAC day tradition with a match on the public holiday, while North
Wangaratta and Goorambat will play a standalone match on the Saturday.
“Each year the fixture is a big part of the OKFNL off season, and as always there are a number of complexities
to take into consideration. However, some issues have been alleviated with the return of matches to the North
Wangaratta Recreation Reserve in 2019” OKFNL League Manager Zac Hedin said.
The OKFNL received over 20 individual fixture requests from clubs, whilst also considering neighbouring
fixtures such as the Ovens and Murray, Goulburn Valley and TAC Cup.
“Whilst we do try to accommodate all the club’s requests, there are a number of factors which mean some
clubs will miss out on one or two priorities, some of these factors include ground availabilities and other
conflicting club requests” said Hedin.
The fixture will follow a similar schedule to previous years, which will include an interleague bye in mid May
and the Queens Birthday bye a fortnight later in June, with the season ramping up for a big finals series in late
August and the leagues showpiece event, the Grand Final, scheduled for the 14th of September.
