The newly formed Kambalda Football Club made it’s debut in the local competition when it met Kalgoorlie on the Boulder Oval on Sunday 4th May 1969.
Ever since the establishment of the Nickel Township local football fans waited anxiously for the entry of a Kambalda team to increase the number of teams in the local competition to five thus ensure keener interest in the qualifying round of fixtures with a struggle to keep in the “four”.
Kambalda encountered some teething troubles early in its career, but it had an enthusiastic band of supporters —perhaps the keenest of them being (the late) Kevin Higgins, former Railways stalwart and Goldfields Representative — and it was certain that Kambalda would build into a ‘strong’ Club within a couple of seasons.
Kambalda named only 19 players in its first A grade team and nominated a 20th man shortly before kick-off.
