We made the trek across to Deniliquin who turned on a magic day weather wise and were great hosts for the day. The seniors turned up to play and play they did. It would be a long time since we have turned it on and played a game like that! It just shows with a solid week on the track and then taking it out on the park on a Saturday - it will come together! Let's not leave it there and make sure we bring that game day against Berrigan.
The first quarter we jumped out of the blocks and the Sheriff showed it was going to be his day. Pulling in massive grabs and making good use in converting well. Dave showed that he has found some form of old and busted the packs to send us forward. Micky O showed his class by racking up a touch or two. The second quarter we saw "Cindy Crawford" have the ball on a string showing some class around the ground. He managed to kick 2 goals for the day or was that 1 goal 6 points.... Eli and Willo showed their superior fitness running the Deni boys all over the park. It's amazing how a bit of youth and fitness can make a massive difference. The second half didn't see us let up. To the boys credit the work ethic was enormous all day. Dizz managed to rake in a few great grabs and convert to slot a few through the big ones. The Morham Brothers came into play and showed that they are going to be great senior players of the future. The ball had fallen in love with Micky O and started to follow him all over the ground. Frank showed that there is room in the senior side by slotting through a few majors, Oussa raked in a few and wobbled a few through for the day. The last term things changed around a bit to set a bit of a challenge. Big Dizz came up the ground and was even seen in the ruck. The Hobbit was out of his comfort zone as he found himself down forward and Boxer even slotted one through the sticks. It was raining goals. Steve Poynton took eight bounces and slotted a major from half back. Lug managed to get a kick which put him on the stats board for day, but it was the Sheriff that showed that there was no giving up. Well done fellas on a great effort. Let's keep it up today.
In the Midday Show it was great to turn up with a full side and the boys rewarded accordingly with a great win on the board. The Gooch had a day out and Troy Poynton slotted 3 majors for the game. Brother Corey managed to get a few possessions and find his way to the big sticks. The Echuca import "Russ" slid one through to put the boys further in front and seal the game. Charlie Mc and Dave Bate put some great passages together and Big K.S.V. finished off nicely!! There is a chance again today boys to put another win on the board so let's have a fair dinkum crack!!
U14's - Taking on the undefeated Rovers was always going to be a challenge but to the Junior Bloods credit they showed plenty of determination and while it didn't reflect on the score board the boys played one of their best games for the year with some excellent passages of play and applying pressure over the whole four quarters. In another game where everyone was doing their bit, it was great to see the older boys step up with Will, the two Jesse's and the two Daniel's all holding their own, Tommy B backed up his good form while the ongoing improvement of Tom Hatty on the last line of defence is one of many plusses for the year so far. Thanks again to Pica, OC, Scotty and Dave for taking the boys last week, from all reports the boys thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations to Jesse Barker who plays his 50th U/14's game today. All the best Jesse, hopefully we can come away with a win for you.
U17's - A good effort by the boys with only eight players showing up. Thanks to the U/14 boys who played again, a great effort. I'm sure people watching can tell the players who are improving every week are the players who train with the senior group - Hugh Haynes, Jarrod Morham, Liam Matthews and Troy Poynton. We can be successful if we put in a united effort. The U/17's might have a chance to play finals for the first time in a while, the challenge is there boys. Do you want it? Let's commit to stick together and all get to training every night and make sure we are right for Saturdays. We play to win, not to make up the numbers. It's a little disappointing what happened at Deni last week - we will not see a repeat of that! Thank you to Craig and the Deni club for your assistance in making sure that there was a game, it was greatly appreciated. So boys get on the phone or whatever it takes to make sure your team mates are at training and get together for Saturday. Don't leave anyone behind.
Awards will be read out at Kelly's Pub tonight after the game. Hope to see you all back there to support another one of our sponsors.
QUOTE OF THE DAY - Magic Johnson - "There's winning and there's losing and in life both will happen. What is never acceptable is quitting."
