Finals time arrived and the club was set a massive few challenges for the weekend. On the court the girls in A grade and 13/U came away with great wins. In the footy, the seniors met Strathy for the second time in as many weeks. With a few ins and outs from the week before we ran with the Bulldog outfit for the best part of 3 quarters only to be shown up by a better side in the last quarter. The challenge is still there for our seniors today playing the Berrigan Saints.
On Sunday we had the impossible up against us. It was great to see our thirds make the finals, but it takes a little more commitment as a side if you wish to be successful. Our 15/U girls put up a great fight as well and hopefully can improve from here for next year.
SENIORS - The boys had the best warm up they could in the confined spaces but were pumped as a group when it came to taking the field. To have one of the best sides fielded all year the boys set the opposition a challenge early. Boxer was set a massive challenge and probably had the upper hand for the day. Frank showed some class and what he is made of running out of defence and it was great to have Lug and Dave's expereience back in the lineup. Well today is do or die. Let's try and get a few more weeks of footy.
UNDER 17's - The year has come to an end and the boys should be very proud to play in finals. I would like to thank all the fourths boys, Mitch, James, Jared, Tom & Will who stepped up in the finals and throughout the year. A special mention to Tyrone Smithers and Toby Saunders who helped us out on Sunday by playing their first U/17's game for the club. At the business end of the year we had injuries to Kaleb, Tommy, Hugh, Jordan and Rory, but no excuse as Mathoura were a very good unit. I was very pleased with our captain, Jarrod Morham, his performance this year was fantastic. Troy Poynton our vice-captain was great too. Thanks to Daniel, Jesse and Daniel M, who helped out during the year. I hope Luke, Murph, Tommy, Kaleb, Troy, Pud, Liam and Boof continue on next year with the club stepping into the seniors. Thanks to Rick, Mal, Deb and Rod for all their support and all the parents for supporting the boys.
Throughout the year there has been plenty of people help out and do a sensational job in the running and organisation of getting the sides on the paddock. As many of us know, footy has become a big chunk of the year. As we finish playing it all turns towards next year. We have been lucky enough to have signed Danny Kirchen on as senior coach for another season. Danny has bought an air of excitement and professionalism to our club. To have the respect and energy that he injects makes us a lucky club. With other coaches of other grades being sought it looks positive for next year! But it doesn't stop here!!! We need to keep our club running during the off season. If you see that any little jobs that might need doing please help out.
Lastly I dont like to single people out when it comes to thank yous, but to our trainers in Rod and Sharmy, a brilliant job fellas and a magnificent job you guys do week in week out. First here last to leave. Make sure you shout these fellas a beer as a sign of appreciation.
