Well mixed emotions for the club last weekend. Saturday turned out to be a great day with great results for our B Grade and Under 15 netball teams.
Sunday, not so good for the club, with our Under 14 and reserves football teams going down, not without a fight may I add and both C Reserve and C Grade netball teams going down also. Congratulations on making it that far and hopefully next year will see you all go further into the final series.
Under 14's - The Young Bloods Elimination Final was a nail-biter that could have gone either way but to the Mathoura boys credit they prevailed for a 2-point win.
Having controlled most of the play in the first half, we could have made a bit more of our forward opportunities. Unfortunately as the game went on the bigger boys from Mathoura gradually got on top and whilst our boys never gave up at any stage, they just couldn't quite get over the line in the end.
As has been the case for most of the season, Zander, Tommy and Decklin all led by example and after that it was a very even team effort which is what we wanted.
The boys have had a great year and hopefully a taste of finals action will inspire them to make it the norm in the coming years.
Reserves - The Magoos stepped out on a perfect day for football hoping to further add to a good year.
We knew Strathy are a seasoned finals team and would be a tough assignment for the Toc boys.
The first quarter started with the Bulldongs full of run and added two majors early and looked like getting a handy lead until Corey Poynton replied with a goal and then another to Tommy Whytcross from an advantage free kick. The Bloods trailing by 5-points at the first change.
The second quarter again was hotly contested as you would expect, with Aaron Morham gaining a significant advantage and providing plenty of run in the transition into offense for Toc. Two points the difference at the half time break.
The third quarter proved the downfall as wasted opportunities proved costly as Strathy put us under extreme pressure and scored 2 goals from centre bounce clearances and 2 goals from centre back turnovers. Aaron Morham added a late goal to reduce the Strathy lead to 19 points with a quarter to play.
The last quarter saw Strathy apply pressure adding the first two goals to make it hard for the Bloods, but the move of Tim Brunskill forward resulted in him having 3 goal assists to fight back hard. In the end Strathy were too good for us. Our effort was fantastic but in the end not quite good enough.
We wish Strathmerton all the best for the rest of their campaign.
It was a total team effort and the whole group should be proud of the steps taken this year and hope we can continue the improvement into 2017.
