Official Match Report
A huge crowd turned out to Sir Richard Moore where the GFL honored ANZAC DAY and then the Panthers and Diorites got to work on some entertaining footy.
Railways started brilliantly with seven of the first eight goals as their youth run riot, but two late goals to Rob Hansen of Mines had limited the early damage. Mines kicked the first of the second quarter but Railways then resumed control to hold a 27 point lead at the half and Full Forward Kody Kelman with 6 goals on the board.
The Second half was a complete contrast as Mines kicked up many gears as Trent Moon, Delson Trott and Luke Nugent started to gain control in the middle of the ground and provided further goal scoring opportunities to Hansen, Matt James and Moon also figuring in the goals column, as they outscored Railways seven goals to nil, to arrest complete control of the game and then icing the match with a solid final quarter to create a 50 point turnaround from half time to record a solid 23 point victory. Mines owned the red time of the game with scoring late and important goals in all of the first 3 quarters, and it came down to experience and poise when challenged as seriously as there were in the early going. Obviously Railways best players were prolific in the first half but Aaron Rymer, Shane Properjohn and David Whait were four quarter contributors while Liam Coyle deserves special acknowledgement in holding the dangerous Grae Grant to two goals after the clever forward had posted 10 from his last two outings.
