Official Match Report
With the challenge of school holiday scheduling our usual squad of 25 was reduced to just 13 players and we called up Sam's younger brother Maurie McConchie from Under 9's and fielded a team against the 4th placed East Sandy who had 7 more players! We talk about effort and pride in the jumper each and every week and today our bakers dozen showed us just that. They worked hard all day controlling the play for much of the game in our forward half by being disciplined and holding their positions on the ground without converting to scoreboard pressure. We took the opposition on at every opportunity and there were a number of fast breaks where our boys run and carried the ball very well. Despite our efforts the opposition had outscored us 4 goals to 1 at half time but the boys did not give up. They loaded up on snakes and oranges (tks Joanna) and headed back out for the second half full of belief and conviction. There was no doubt the boys wanted to show everyone what they were capable of and they very nearly constructed an win against the odds. They ran out the game well outscoring the opposition 3 goals to 1 in the second half. This was a game where we would have given votes to all of the boys if we could as their effort all day was outstanding and they showed huge pride in the South Districts jumper today. Congratulations to Jake McCombe on 50 games for SMD and another good one today!
