Official Match Report
Mother's Day saw our Bentleigh under 9's travel 500 metres up the road to take on local rivals St Peters and triumph on what was a cold and wet day.
It was clear from the first bounce that we had the ascendancy in the middle of the ground, our defence in the first quarter held strong and the forward line had a number of shots on goal, but we were without luck until a free kick gave us our first goal.
With 26 players in the team, the 8 Interchange rotations at quarter time meant a different looking side headed out for the second quarter. Fantastic support was given by our small and younger midfielders and forwards with a couple more goals giving us a handy break over the opposition. It was a terrific quarter of football with the ball being moved between both goals in tough conditions.
After the half time break and another 8 interchanges, the ball was consistently in the hands of the St Peters forwards and our backline was under pressure. The St Peters boys tackled very hard and won the ball off us, holding us scoreless for the quarter.
Neither team score a goal in the last quarter, but it was a contest we had in control. The ball continually moved from our midfield to the forward line and was rarely in the St Peters forward half.
At the final siren the Bentleigh boys celebrated for the last time together before the team is split and we field 2 U9 teams next week.
