YOUTH won out over experience when Moyhu held off Whorouly to win the B grade premiership 47-42.
The Hoppers' 14 year old goal shooter, Carly Perso, was named best on court and was the clear difference between the teams.
Her superior height to anyone on the court meant she could take most of the high passes and rebounds without challenge.
Moyhu coach, Helen Judd, said she was proud of the girls, who all contributed in an even team effort.
After an even and nervy first quarter by both teams, the Hoppers' speed and pressure became too much to handle and they pulled away to a six-goal lead.
Whorouly goal shooter, Luisa Cunneen, went down with an ankle injury in the third quarter, but played on and it was her reliable shooting that led the Lions on their comeback.
The lead changed three times before the final break, then Moyhu took charge again.
The Hoppers went out to a four-goal lead early in the quarter and having brought on fresh legs in the second half, could not be caught.
Judd said even though most of the team members were under 18 and playing in their first grand final, she knew they had enough talent to win the game.
"Whorouly kept coming back at them and they were mature enough to keep calm and keep possession," she said.
