JAIMON McGeehan has capped a season to remember by taking out Moyhu's best and fairest award on Friday night for a third straight year.
The versatile utility was considered only an outside chance to win the Nolan Family Medal this year with recruits Nathan Waite and Ryan Craig also enjoying outstanding seasons.
But after a stunning runner up finish to Waite in the Baker Medal earlier this month McGeehan's stock continued to rise, with match winning performances in the Hoppers' preliminary and grand final victories sealing the votes needed to claim the award.
Like he was on the league's presentation night, McGeehan was once again surprised at the individual honor.
"It was a shock," McGeehan said.
"But it's an absolute honor, particularly with all the quality players we have running around now.
"We won the premiership so it's one of the best years I've ever had."
While he is a brilliant on-baller in his own right, McGeehan played his first two seasons largely as a rebounding defender before moving to half forward this year, and said he had enjoyed the transition.
"It's definitely helped," he said.
"Obviously we had two new superstars come into the midfield this year.
"A lot of the teams have put the focus on them and it allows me to do my own thing."
And after cementing his reputation as a big game player by amassing more than 30 touches and three goals in both the preliminary and grand finals, McGeehan is now hoping to remain a part of the forward line rotations.
"I thought half back was my prime but now that I've had a taste of the forward line I'm hoping John (McNamara) doesn't move me," he said.
"I don't think I'll be going anywhere."
McGeehan polled 50 votes all up to edge out Craig on 47, while Waite (40), Andrew Balfour (33), Nathan Gorman (32) and Jeremy Wilson (30) rounded out the top six.
Marcus Lloyd won the reserves best and fairest with 35 votes with Sam Crabbe right with him, finishing on 34.
The A grade netball award was won by star goal attack Steph Hogan, Holly Judd took out the B grade trophy, while Carmel Annett and Brooke Henwood won the B reserve and C grade best and fairest awards.
