GRETA will be aiming to add to its list over the coming weeks, but coach Daniel McLaughlin is quietly confident the Blues already have the personnel to take the next step.
McLaughlin was disappointed with the way Greta finished the season, bundled out of the premiership race after losing its elimination final against King Valley.
But after adding a couple of key talls, with Mitch Glover and Bryce Willoughby returning the club, as well as another midfielder in Steve Brooks, McLaughlin said the 2012 list was taking shape nicely.
"We definitely needed a bit more height, so Mitch Glover and Bryce Willoughby returning is a bonus," he said.
"They are both flexible in what positions they can play.
"Steve Brooks is also back, so he will help to bulk up the midfield a bit.
"There are a couple of others who are just waiting on uni and work, but at this stage it's looking pretty good."
While key forward Brad Bell's departure during the latter stages of last season hurt the Blues, the development of the club's core group of youngsters, along with the strong form of Jason Humphries and Scott Miller, is set to provide the foundation for the 2012 Greta model.
"Belly has got more work in Melbourne, so at this stage it is more than likely he will stay down there," McLaughlin said.
"But we didn't really have him for the second half of the year anyway.
"The good thing is we've re-signed 'Jack' Humphries and Scott Miller, as well as our young guys in Zac Cleeland, Chris Sherritt and Chris O'Connor.
"They have all shown they have what it takes to be really good players in the Ovens and King, and they are the guys we are building the side around."
While there has been talk that Anthony McGuire was over the line at the Blues, McLaughlin said he had spoken with the Milawa star, but the conversation hadn't progressed beyond a friendly chat.
