TARRAWINGEE coach Finton Eames has hailed the club's fitness camp at Mornington on the weekend as a major success.
Most of the Bulldogs' senior list travelled down to the Mornington Peninsula for a weekend of running, hill and stair climbs, tyre throwing and boxing as well as the usual football training.
"It was a very good weekend," Eames said.
"It was pretty much what I expected, tough but the boys got through it well.
"We trained for probably six hours and did about 20km of running all up so the boys did have a dip and a few of them are a bit fitter than they thought."
While the entire weekend was a gruelling one for the Bulldogs, Eames said the toughest point of the camp came early in the piece on Saturday morning.
"Probably the first session of hill climbs and stair runs was the toughest," he said.
"It was a 2km run to get there and then we split into two groups.
"One would do the hill climbs and the other would do the stairs, then swap over after 25 minutes.
"By the end of it the boys didn't call it a hill climb they called it a cliff because it had a fair inclination.
"And the beep test at the end was tough."
But while the sweat poured out of the players across both days with the temperatures around 30 degrees, Eames said there was also plenty of down time for the players to review their performances.
"Once we got the hard work out of the way we went out for tea and when we got back on Sunday we got together for a few drinks," he said.
"It was just good to kick back and look back on what we had achieved on the days.
"The boys know how far they can push their bodies now."
Tarrawingee will now look to get back into preparations for the 2012 season with intra-club and practice matches planned for March.
