DESPITE already being tipped as the Ovens and King's big improvers, King Valley coach Jono Rea isn't prepared to make a prediction on where he hopes the Roos will finish in 2012.
The Roos surged into the finals in 2011 and defeated Greta in an elimination final before being knocked out of the premiership race by Benalla in the semi final.
Since the end of the season King Valley has signed former Wodonga star Adam Williams and Beechworth premiership ruckman Tim Scheuermann.
It also recruited young trio Tim Allan, Jacob Schonafinger and Hayden Sims, and remains hopeful former star Gabe O'Brien will pull on the boots.
But far from getting ahead of himself, Rea is adamant he just wants to see the Roos continue to improve on 2011.
"At the end of the day we finished seventh last year so we were a little bit off the pace still," he said.
"I'd like to think with the players we've picked up that we'll improve.
"But you never know what the competition is going to be like.
"I'd love to make the top four and after last year I think that's the next step but we'll have to wait and see."
O'Brien was a star the last time he played with the Roos before signing with Ovens and Murray club Myrtleford where he also had an immediate impact.
Yet injuries have constantly plagued the forward with a string of serious shoulder problems preventing him from playing consistently and Rea said he was unsure of what O'Brien would do.
