THE fate of netball courts at Milawa, Greta and Tarrawingee is now in the hands of the Department of Planning and Community Development.
Rural City of Wangaratta councillors last week approved eceived $25,000 from its major category community grants program for the project, on condition of government funding success.
If successful the project, valued at more than $270,000, will see:
* the installation of a netball court at Milawa;
* two netball courts, lighting and change rooms at the Tarrawingee Recreation Reserve; and
* resurfacing of existing netball court and possible installation of a half court for training at Greta.
The clubs have already injected $89,111 cash and $16,400 of in-kind donations towards the works and the council's grant bolsters chances of receiving further funding.
However, the cluster of clubs will only receive the council funding if its successful in receiving funds of more than $140,000 from the State Government's Putting Locals First round of funding.
It is understood the clubs should know if they have been successful with the final round of funding by June.
Other projects council announced funding for last week were:
* $8600 to Tarrawingee Recreation Reserve for a playground shade sail;
* $25,000 to Edi Upper Community Hall for tennis court lighting, playground, covered barbecue and the relocation of water tanks;
* $25,000 to Glenrowan Public Park Reserve for kitchen;
* $7000 to Springhurst Recreation and Community Hall to upgrade parking at the facility; and
* $7184 to Tarrawingee Public Hall Committee to buy new furniture and crockery.
