WHOROULY'S forwards enjoyed another day out at the weekend, with Gene Marek and Richard Leahy booting 21 goals between them in a 217-point rout of Swanpool.
The pair combined for 16 goals in the opening round win over Bright, and now sit top two in the Ovens and King Football League's goal kicking, Leahy on 19 and Marek on 18.
And the trend is set to continue this weekend as the Lions take on the side many predict will finish bottom of the ladder this year Glenrowan.
Whorouly coach Brendan Roche said Leahy and Marek had formed a formidable partnership in attack.
"They are sharing it around a bit and really starting to click," Roche said.
"Richie kicked 9.7 last week, but he straightened up quite a bit this week, and Gene is just a lovely kick for goal."
While it's hard to measure a team's performance in such a one-sided match, Roche said he liked what he saw from the Lions.
"The main thing was that we went out and played four quarters of football," he said.
"It's easy to relax in games like that, but we kept the foot down and went on with the job.
"I think Swanpool just tired towards the end, but our fitness really shone through."
Star recruit Kyle Archibald (four goals) was named best on ground for Whorouly ahead of lightning quick wingman Liam Harrington (five goals), and Roche said both set the bar high for their teammates.
"Arch is just a real physical presence," he said.
"Along with Trev Vyner he is strong at the contest and just gets his hands to the ball first.
"Liam's fitness is right up there where it was a couple of years ago when he first came across from the OandM.
"He always gets a lot of shots on goal, but now he's a bit fitter he's starting to slot a few more.
"But we're really trying to spread the load and get the young kids involved, and that was something I was happy with as well."
