MILAWA coach Luke Sims says Sunday's massive 103-point victory over Tarrawingee was surprising but added it was just the start of a tough two months ahead for the Demons.
Despite heading into the match against their archrival as the underdogs, the Demons blew the Bulldogs away with a complete four-quarter performance, resulting in a 22.16 (148) to 6.9 (45) win.
A six-goal first quarter set up the victory with the likes of Jack Stamp, Steve Williamson and Jeff Whitehead dominant.
Sims, in his second year at the helm of the Demons, was shocked at the final margin but quickly said the players had deserved the win.
"Of course I was surprised," he said.
"Regardless of the scoreboard I was happy with the way we went about it.
"We went there to get the four points and I was pleased with the way we earned them."
While it had been widely publicised that the Demons had lost several key players over the off-season, the victory over the Bulldogs was crucial for the side, which is now unbeaten in three games.
Sims quickly pointed out that his side faces the likes of Greta, King Valley, Whorouly, Benalla, Moyhu and North Wangaratta in the next two months and hopes the Demons can take momentum from Sunday's win.
"The Tarra game was the beginning of a huge six weeks for us," he said.
"We play all of the top sides one after the other so it was great to be able to get some momentum.
"Coming up against five of the top six or seven sides we still feel like we've got a long way to go.
"Sunday was important to get some momentum going."
One player that all of those sides will have to be on the lookout for is Stamp, with the speedy on-baller already one of the early favorites for the Baker Medal.
