MILAWA has stamped itself as a genuine premiership contender after upsetting the previosuly undefeated Whorouly by 16 points on Saturday.
Heading into the match as underdogs, the Demons produced a stunning third quarter burst to open up a 29-point lead at the final change.
The Lions hit back in the final quarter with six goals, however, it wasn't enough as the Demons won 18.10 (118) to 15.12 (102).
Steve Williamson's move into the forward paid off with four goals while Jack Stamp (four), Rayn Ussher (three) and Tim Lewis (three) all bobbed up with some crucial plays.
Richard Leahy kicked for the Lions while Kyle Archibald, Trevor Vyner and Luke Matheson also played well despite going down.
Meanwhile, Daniel Vihm and Richard Findlay both kicked eight goals as North Wangaratta smashed Tatong by 221 points.
Owen Paterson added seven from the midfield.
Brendan Sessions landed 16 goals as King Valley beat Glenrowan by 186 points while Greta beat Goorambat by 51 points with Brad Bell kicking nine majors for the Blues.
Andrew Ellis and Damien Gray were the best for the Bats.
