MILAWA'S stunning victory over Whorouly on Saturday could yet be soured with gun midfielder Scott Gardner awaiting results on his injured knee.
Gardner went down in the first quarter of Saturday's clash and was immediately taken from the field where he remained for the entire game.
The on-baller had been one of the key reasons for the Demons' bright start to the season but was yesterday awaiting results of scans to determine the damage.
Milawa coach Luke Sims said it was disappointing to lose Gardner but was hoping his star midfielder would be okay.
"We're not sure yet," he said.
"It happened early in the first quarter.
"He was pretty sore when I spoke to him Sunday.
"We'll have to wait until he gets assessed."
While Gardner's injury put a slight dampener on the win, Sims said there was plenty to like about the Demons' performance including regular defender Steve Williamson's move to the forward line.
Williamson kicked four goals and took at least 15 marks at centre half forward in a best on ground display.
Sims said the Demons took a punt by moving Williamson out of defence but was delighted that it paid off.
"Due to injuries we had to restructure a bit," he said.
"By putting Steve forward we had to have faith in our back line.
"Steve was brilliant, he was a fantastic target all day and showed how adaptable he is.
"He took plenty of marks at centre half forward."
Sims also said he wasn't surprised by the Demons' third quarter performance where they kicked six goals to two to break the game open.
He said the Demons always believed they had the better fitness levels and said improved skills helped give them the momentum.
"We sensed we could run them off their feet and that was one thing we spoke about before the match," he said.
"We managed to run the footy in the third quarter and kicked a bit straighter.
"Jeff Whitehead's influence in the ruck was huge and Ryan Hussey keeps getting better and better."
