THE surprises just keep on coming. A week after basically falling over the finish line against Swanpool a side routinely belted by 200 points or more Tarrawingee stunned Whorouly with a four-point win.
Making the result all the more staggering was the fact Daniel Barassi, who booted 11 of the Bulldogs' 15 goals last week, was out with a back complaint.
Despite all that they have achieved in the past four years two premierships and two narrow grand final losses the Bulldogs were starting to look as if their time at the top had passed.
Their three wins in the first six rounds all came against former Benalla and District league clubs, and they were unceremoniously crushed by Milawa in round three.
With a long injury list Tarrawingee was given no chance against the Lions, who despite coming off a loss to Milawa have been red hot.
But all that meant to the Bulldogs was one thing: motivation.
They split the battle in the midfield, and made the Lions earn everything they got.
With Barassi out, Tarrawingee coach Finton Eames said Chris Daws, playing his 100th match, was a match winner at full forward with five goals.
