BENALLA coach Ben Wapling has squashed speculation suggesting reigning best and fairest Duane 'Brush' Haebich would make a shock return to the Panthers this season.
Haebich returned to home club Tungamah, along with brother Drew, over the off-season after kicking a century of goals for the Panthers in 2011.
But while talk in recent weeks had suggested a return was on the cards, Wapling said Haebich wouldn't be seen in Benalla colors this season.
"He won't be coming back," he said.
"Brush is in a leadership role over at Tungamah and although he is missing the place he went over there for family reasons - he'll stick it out."
Wapling admitted he was aware of the rumors linking Haebich with a Benalla comeback and while he said he remained in regular contact with the star forward, he was unaware where the speculation had come from.
"I'd love to have him back," he said.
"Me and him are really good mates and still talk quite a bit.
"I keep hearing these things but it won't be happening."
