RECORDS tumbled at Glenrowan on Saturday, with Greta's goal-fest sending the stats men into a frenzy.
While there remains some debate over the final scores, what remains clear is that the Blues smashed Chiltern's 20-year old record for the highest score kicked, while full forward Brad Bell finished with the biggest individual haul seen in the history of Ovens and King football.
The statistics lodged with the league had Bell down for 22, with the final score recorded as 56.16 (352) to Glenrowan's 1.1 (7).
But club officials were yesterday adamant Greta had finished with 58.16 (364), with Bell booting 23.
Regardless, the Blues' score shattered Chiltern's record of 52.25 (337), also kicked against Glenrowan, back in 1992, while Bell's tally puts him ahead of Bert Carey, who finished with 21 goals in a game against Everton some 81 years ago.
Coach Dan McLaughlin said it felt good to be involved in such a momentous result.
"Looking at the scores now, it's quite unbelievable really," he said.
"We knew we'd broken a lot of club records, and had a feeling Belly had the league record, but I didn't know we'd kicked the record score that's great.
"Everything just clicked for us, and we stuck to our structures the whole way through."
McLaughlin said Bell's effort was remarkable, but added Chris O'Connor's 14, which also broke Andy Haring's club record of 13, was also a valuable contribution.
"It's just incredible that one bloke can kick 14 and have a teammate kick nearly 10 more than him," he said.
"It overshadows it a bit, but Chris is a quiet achiever, and he played a great game.
"When they looked to double team Belly, Chris got his opportunities and made the most of them.
"Belly was just outstanding, and he barely missed.
"He was getting a lot of shots from 40-45m out, but he still finished with something like 23.4.
"He's been such a standout for us, and it's no coincidence the five games he's played have been five wins."
While McLaughlin said the Blues wouldn't dwell on their performance, he added it would have some lasting benefits, with Greta's percentage boosted by nearly 50 points.
"We're not getting carried away with the scores," he said.
"In the end it's only worth four points, and we have to switch our focus to Tarrawingee next week.
"But it was great to get so much percentage out of it.
"We only play Glenrowan once, and we don't get the same opportunities to boost our percentage that a lot of other clubs do, so it was great to make the most of it."
