BRIGHT has staked its claim as a potential Ovens and King finalist following a stunning 13-point win over Tarrawingee on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were hot favorites heading into the clash on the back of their strongest performance of the season, holding off a fast finishing North Wangaratta in round 12, but they had no answers for the Mountain men and early, and found themselves trailing by 28 points at the first change.
Helped by a breeze, Bright slammed on six goals to one in the opening term, and was never headed on the way to a 12.13 (85) to 10.12 (72) victory.
Bright coach Ryan Kent paid credit to his troops, and said the game plan employed by the Bulldogs played into his side's hands.
"We've made a few changes and brought players up from our seconds and thirds, and those fringe players have made all the difference," Kent said.
"With the way the breeze worked, we were lucky to win the toss, but really it came down to 21 blokes showing total commitment.
"I was a bit surprised by Tarrawingee they put tags on our mids and seemed more focused on shutting us down than playing their own game.
"As we started to get a few goals I think they became even more negative, but as long as we ran hard we knew we would be rewarded, and that's what happened."
