TARRAWINGEE'S hopes of making it into a fifth consecutive grand final have received a major blow with key forward Chris Daws ruled out for the rest of the season.
Daws suffered a fractured vertebra in Tarrawingee's win over Milawa two weeks ago and x-rays confirmed the worst for the Bulldogs big man.
It continues a luckless three years for Daws, who was plagued with foot stress fractures in his two years with Wangaratta before returning to Tarrawingee this season.
Tarrawingee coach Finton Eames said the loss of Daws would be heavily felt.
"It's shattering news," he said.
"He has really been one of our key forwards this season and been a key focal point.
