Round 1 St Pauls V Heatherton
SENIORS – Sponsored by Merkon Constructions
There is a lot to like about the 2013 version of the St Pauls Senior team. Roy rolled out a classy outfit of seasoned stars and blended them seamlessly with a big group of exciting youngsters. Our new arrival, Jay (the Wiz) Bruno showcased his sublime skills and exceptional running ability with a fierceness to compete which gave our midfield a real spark. The scoring machine that is Luke (LJ) James reminded us all why he is so difficult to match up on and contain, his 9 goals was an ominous sign of what lays ahead in 2013. Christian (SOM) McCarthy added some run and toughness on a wing whilst young debutant Callum (SOB) Cathcart who moves like a cat on a hot tin roof snagged 5 majors. Others to impress were Jack Hayes at full back, Matty Taylor in the ruck which released Gilbo to play forward where he was too mobile to stop, the two Tims – Blackwood and East, A-Mac, and Jarryd Allen who all put in 4 solid quarters. The much anticipated clash with East Brighton will be a great indicator for both teams.

The boys ran out comfortable 83 point winners against a Tonners outfit that battled hard. There were great signs in terms of depth for the club with newcomers Jak (My boy) Wardley, Michael (no nickname just yet) Johnstone and Joel (Birdie) Parrett all finding and using the footy with courage and poise. Other first gamers Eric (Banna) Lengyel, James (BOA) Toranto and Josh (the Famous) Krause all did well at times and will be great additions. The fact that Bryce and the Clock led the way for 8 of our under 19’s who played and did well can only be good for footy
