SENIORS – Sponsored by the Cushion Lounge
The game was effectively won in the first quarter where our ball movement was excellent giving LJ plenty of opportunities – and let’s face it – LJ needs only the smallest of opportunities to make something from nothing. Nudge and Willow stood out with their clean ball handling, relentless attack on the contest and their willingness to bring teammates into each passage of play was inspiring. Our young inclusions Matty Taylor and Cal Cathcart chipped in when needed and were important in the long term scheme of things. The second half was a battle but we kept Cheltenham goalless due in large parts to Kenny Hall and Gilbo cutting off many of Chelts attacking runs and T-Mac working extra hard against the Chelt’s spearhead Graham at fullback.

With only 16 players on the park for the first quarter the simple instruction from Daz was to keep with them till backup arrived. So despite Glenny working overtime down back and Pratta starring we went in at half time 18 points down as backup from the under 19’s arrived. A 7 goal 3rd quarter saw a complete turnaround, I can’t remember a team playing so brilliantly and doing it all for their coach in a long time. O-dog returning injury led from the front, Connor Wilson contested aggressively at full forward and James Marrasco worked tirelessly in the ruck and with Browny, Boof, Jai and Jaz all lifting, we were able to run away in the second half
Under 19’s V Bentleigh - Sponsored by Total Waste Management
After a very encouraging first quarter where we looked evenly matched, we struggled to keep pace with the ladder leaders whose accurate kicking on their home deck also hurt us. On a positive note, Michael Constantinou – MC Hammer - was a winner on his wing. He won every one of his possessions through hard contested footy. At the last line of defence Flynny was solid and Jordan Lloyd was outstanding under constant fire and gave us great run and showed he can match any forward in the competition athletically and talent wise.
Semi Final - Netballers (24) V Bentleigh (26) - Sponsored by Eva Rose Hair Salon.
Today St Paul’s went head to head with Bentleigh in the semi final. We were evenly matched and it was anybody’s game. Shooters Eliza and Melissa were finding the net easily, as did our opposition, and scores were level at quarter time. Bentleigh led by 2 points at half time, but we were eager to come back strong in the third – and we did. Thanks to some quick feet and strong passing by Meg and the girls through the mid-court, we managed to claw back 5 points to steal the lead. With Elly, Jules and Caitlin playing well in defence, we were in control of the pace. But a few unlucky moments in the fourth left us two points down at the final siren. It would have been good to come away with the win, but we can’t be disappointed with how we played – solid effort girls. Thanks to all those who came down to cheer for us!
