Round 2 St Pauls V St Kilda City
SENIORS – Sponsored by Merkon Constructions
The battle of the two “Saints” was a fairly uninspiring game and whilst nothing much separated the teams on the scoreboard, the match style failed to ignite the crowd. At half time we trailed 15 to 18 points and coach Dessent wasn’t happy. Adam McIntyre got back to his best with good support from skipper Kenny Hall. Tall debutant Ryan Kitchin eased his way into the game nicely at CHF and will be a very valuable asset with his ferocious attack on the marking contests. The LJ and Ridgeway show is yet to ignite and this spells some impending danger for the upcoming teams as it is just a matter of time before the key forwards get their act together. Christian McCarthy was very good again and it was great to see T-Mac up and about again in 2014.
RESERVES – Sponsored by Remezzo’s Restaurant
.A 34 point victory was hard fought with plenty of good contributors. There were none better than Bobby Carracher who was a standout midfielder with 33 possessions. WA recruit Paul Thomson showed his ability and should be pushing for senior selection if he can string together further solid performances whilst TLP (Trav L-Plates) booted an Almost Footy Legends qualifier which saw him drift from the back pocket and finish with a 50 meter over the shoulder, against the wind drop kick goal to remind Coach Rogers of his goal kicking talents. Connor was solid with 3 majors and the talented Brenton Rafferty again caught the eye with a polished game
Under 19’s Vs Carrum Patterson Lakes – Sponsored by the Bentleigh RSL
With 5 changes to our lineup from round 1, the boys took a while to settle and allowed CPL to sneak a few goals before we woke up. In an entertaining game up until the rain came the match was pretty level. Braggers backed up his form from round 1 and along with Carl Herb who was also very damaging. Debutant Tim Tyler was excellent in the ruck and looks very promising. In the wash up, poor conversion against CPL’s 10 goals 2 points was the difference and the boys have a bit to work on with their goal kicking and forward entries
Netballers
The girls have done well to field two teams this season. Our senior team had a solid 41 to 37 win against StKilda City whilst our reserve team came up short going down 22 to 41.
