Welcome to Season 2018! We are only 4 and a half months out from the first ball up of Round 1 and already there is some fantastic work being undertaken to continue Bentleigh's standing as one of the highest regarded clubs in the SMJFL.
Firstly, congratulations again to our 2017 Premiers, Finalists and Best & Fairest Winners (League and Club). As acknowledged by Sam Trainor at the AGM these efforts do not go without recognition and your performances in representing yourselves and your Club are greatly appreciated.
I would also like to thank Sam Trainor who has stood down after three years as President. Sam has been a tireless worker and tremendous volunteer having kept our Club moving forwards during his presidency and seeing the club through some very interesting and challenging times. His role in supporting the Bentleigh Saints transition, the growth of girls football, his push for increased sponsorship and branding and his commitment to defending the club at all times has been unquestionable. Thank you Sam to you and your wonderful family Simone, Chloe and Luke for all the time and support you have provided.
The new 2018 Committee (details attached) will see some existing members return and some great energy through new additions, Your 2018 BJFC Committee represents the best of our Bentleigh football community volunteers, and in giving up their time to support our Club, your kids and our wider Community, represents an act that in my view makes these everyday ordinary people, extraordinary. Please make an effort to get to know your Committee and provide support when you can.
From a personal level, I am delighted to be your new President and will value and respect the role as it deserves. We have great times ahead and I am privileged to have the opportunity to lead this Club.
To the members, we are about to embark on a very challenging yet no doubt exciting year. There will be so much to celebrate during 2018. Newly renovated rooms, a new electronic scoreboard, a full suite of teams from U8 right through to U17 including a new girls team(s) at Under 10 and six Bentleigh Saints teams reinforcing our great partnership. Our relationship with Bentleigh Auskick and Bentleigh Football Netball Club has also never been stronger. Ours is a template and pathway other clubs aspire to and we should be proud of that.
We will also be celebrating our U17 boys team who will be culminating their time with the club, many of whom will have spent over 10 years with us commencing at Auskick and playing right through. This is an outstanding effort and to everyone who has helped them get to this point, you should be proud of them and what you have done to support them in their journey. Thank you.
Very shortly, you will receive an email advising that registrations have opened and announcing some fee changes. Due to the many increasing costs we are now having to manage, we have had to review our 2018 fees yet believe they remain on par if not still below many other clubs. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss.
So that's it for now. Again, welcome to Season 2018; it might be 120+ days away but start getting excited, get to know your coach, your Committee and your fellow Demons ... we have a great year ahead.
Yours in footy,
Paul Jemmeson (Jemmo)
