LIFETIME stalwarts of the Bonnie Doon Football Netball Club were honoured on Saturday when the re-opening of the new look reserve hall was named after them.
The late Roy Friday and Terry Dale have had the reserve hall named ‘The Friday Dale Stand’.
On revealing the newly named stand Dave Darby, club president, thanked Terry Dale for all he had done for the club and to Roy Friday’s memory for his past support.
The renovated hall has undergone extensive renovations over the past two years including the extension of a balcony and veranda, upgraded umpire room, player change rooms, kiosk and bar area.
Mr Darby on behalf of the club said everyone is going to get a benefit from this – it is just fantastic.
“Special thanks to Ian Styles, project manager – without Ian this would not have happened – he put his whole business on the line to get this off the ground,” Mr Darby said.
“Terry Dale and Alan Fox drove this – and I would like to thank all the tradesmen who have helped out – a lot of this work has been done in-kind – it’s been fantastic.”
“On behalf of t he Bonnie Doon Football Netball Club and tennis club – I thank the Bendigo Bank for what they have done – without them we would not have been able to achieve what we have and there is a lot of people who have put in a lot of work.”
Tim Ross, chair of the board on behalf of the Bendigo Bank outlined the bank’s involvement which started three years ago.
“The bank has committed $100,000 over five years as part of its community grants program,” Mr Ross said.
“It is by far the biggest project the bank has embarked on but the board felt it was a worthwhile project for Bonnie Doon.
“We were impressed by the proposal and the people behind it and the board unanimously decided to get behind the project.
“The project is a true community project between this club and the Bendigo Bank.”
Mr Ross acknowledged the community involvement and that more than $100,000 of materials and in-kind work has been donated by members and tradespeople – over 50 businesses and individuals.
“I am aware of how much work that involves – I congratulate the club and the community on the enormous contribution they have made,” Mr Ross said.
“Congratulations to all on the completion of a great project.”
Also unveiled on Saturday was the new bar area renamed Fox’s Tavern (in recognition of Allan Fox’s long time standing with the club) and the new kiosk area to be known as Dawn’s Diner in recognition of more than 35 years of serving food and drinks to the supporters.
