See our Summer Mini News in the PDF attached.
We extend to all our Supporters & Friends the best wishes for an enjoyable and safe Christmas and of course a very happy and successful 2012.
Star Port Melbourne defender Jarrod Dalton has put aside back to back Premiership ambitions with the reigning Premiers to join close relations Heath Black & Dean Kelly at Vermont. Something the three of them have been talking about for a while.
After the disapointment of not getting the call a couple of weeks ago in the main AFL Draft, the boy from Vermont finally hit the big time in the Rookie Draft today when he was taken by the Western Bulldogs. No one could have worked harder than Alex to make the grade, and now he has a foot on the ladder. His success followed the drafting of another ex Vermont boy Matthew Arnott to Richmond. We wish both lads long and exciting careers. One day maybe we might see them back in purple & gold. The only other Ex Eagle in the AFL is Chris Knights at Adelaide.
Our man in WA Heath Black has been on the recruiting trail and three players he has encouraged to come to Melbourne visited the Club tonight.
From Left are Chris Atthowe, Jace Cormack and Josh Buckley all of whom were playing in a Country competition south of Perth.
With the change of ages for the Colts Competition in 2012 and the fact that we will not get the usual flow of players from
our Under 16's ( who ahve moved up to U17's), we need some additioanal players. Most of our 2011 Colts players, who finished Third last seaso,
will be continuing. This a wonderful opportunity to be at a first Division Club with outstanding Coaches and facilities. Intereste
boys should ring Colts Coach Graeme Hocking 0418367130
At the Club's Annual General Meeting held on 6th December four new Life Members were pronounced.
Administratotors BRIAN TREWHELLA & DON PARSONS and players JAMIE RUSHTON & DAN PAPILLO
Congratulations to them all
The Annual General Meeting of the Vermont Football Club will be held on Tuesday 6th December at the Vermont Clubrooms starting at 7pm.
New Senior Coach Kris Barlow conducted the first of the Pre Xmas training Sessions last Wednesday. Kris's last participation at Vermont was t at Vermont was the 2006 Senior Premiership win.
It was no surprise that Ryan Mullett would win his Third Senior Best & Fairest Award after a fantastic season. This was his third win and he did so in emphatic style by 32 Votes from Robbie Ross and Daniel Mendes.
The Vermont Football Club sadly extends the deepest of sympathy to the family and friends of Shaun Bergin and everyone at the
Balwyn Football Club.
The Vermont Football Club has great pleasure in announcing that KRIS BARLOW has been appointed a non playing Senior Coach for the next two seasons.
Kris joined Vermont as a 20 year old from Scoresby and immediately enjoyed Senior Premiership success in 1994 when Vermont thrashed the almost unbeatable Ringwood in the EFL First Div Grand Final. With his older brother Paul as Senior Coach, they won it again in 1995, were runners up in 1996 and then Premiers again in 1997, this time under Senior Coach Craig Coghlan. Kris was drafted to Hawthorn in 1998 at the age of 24 and with great determination as a “mature age recruit” went on to play 102 Senior games with the Hawks. He returned to Vermont in 2005 as playing Assistant to David Banfield and again played in a Premiership side. So over 5 seasons, he had played in 96 senior games at Vermont and received a Premiership medallion on four occasions. Since then he has played footy at Foster, been a player and Coach at Noble Park, a player and Assistant Coach at Blackburn and this past year has continued to play a game or two whilst helping a mate out with the Coaching at Rowville.
The Football Club welcomes Kris, his wife Lisa and kids (Kye, Jay and Levi) back into the fold where they have so many past friends and look forward to very successful times ahead.
The Club again acknowledges the quite outstanding record of retiring Coach David Banfield over his eight years highlighted by five First Div Grand Finals and of course four wonderful Premierships. David, Lisa and family will always be welcome at Terrara Road which has been like their second home for so long.
The Reserves bounced back last Sunday with a stunning 35 point win over Blackburn and the Colts were sadly over run in the final quarter against Scoresby, but they can get back to the Grand Final next week. So both teams will be playing at Bayswater next Saturday 10th September. Reserves play East Ringwood and the Colts will play Blackburn. Best player in the Reserves was clearly Travis Bird, seen left.
Last Saturday at Balwyn was a tough hard day in very warm conditions. We had considerable injury issues before and during the game that restricted us greatly. But that said, Balwyn were just physically too strong. We thank them for recognising Dave Banfield’s final game. It was much appreciated.
What a fantastic contribution David has made in so many ways. We will certainly miss his leadership & guidance, but greatly remember so many wonderful highlights.
The Craig Coghlan Award went to none other than the 300 game man himself, Aaron Nummy. This says a bit about how our team is travelling, but more about the determination of Aaron Nummy who has been a champion in every way. Other best players were Ryan Mullett, Xavier Barry-Murphy, Dean Millhouse, Robbie Ross, Mitch Bonuda and young Nick Johnson ( our Colts Captain). The Reserves had picnic with the big man Sam Groth dominating up forward with eight goals. Other best were Travis Bird, Glenn Waters, Jamie Rushton, Kyle Emley and Trent Parker. Sadly of course, the Colts had no game. Congratulations to Aaron Mullett on a great first up game with Nth.Melbourne and many more to come.
Next Saturday is about the youngsters of our Club that play in our Reserves & Colts who are playing in qualifying finals after terrific home & away seasons. These two teams have not only had many massive wins, but played very attractive football all year. Congratulations to Coaches Jeff Rudd and Graeme Hocking for outstanding jobs.
SOCIAL: - Senior/Reserves Vote Count is Frid. 23rd Sept. Colts Presentation lunch is Sun. 30th Sept. Senior Presentation Night is Friday 21st October and the proposed Vermont Day at the Cranbourne Xmas Races is Sat Dec 3rd. If you are interested in sponsoring one of the eight races, contact Rodney Haynes on 0408548001.
On Saturday at Balwyn, Aaron Nummy will play his 300 Senior/Reserves game for Vermont. That on top of over 150 Junior games starting when he was 7. In all he has played 29 seasons of football highlighted by being part of 7 senior Vermont Premierships and a Club Life Membership in 2003. An incredible contribution to the Vermont FC and the Eastern Football League. He has 6 games to catch Club Senior games record holder Mark Cullen, will he come back in 2012 ?
Ryan Mullet will play his 150th Senior game & Dean Millhouse his 100th.
It will the final Senior Coaching game for David Banfield
Last Saturday at Mulgrave went well with all sides having comfortably wins. The Craig Coghlan Trophy went to Ashley Froud for an incredible game up forward. He booted nine goals including 6 in the third quarter. We think that is a Club record shared with Matt Greig. Other best were Daniel Mendes, Ryan Mullett, Robbie Ross, Mitch Bonuda, Xavier Barry-Murphy, Grant McCarthy and Marcus Tippett. For the Reserves, Lachie Ryan got the Perry Fletcher Award narrowly from Jason Youseff, Trent Parker (7 goals), Jason Collins, Jamie Rushton, Tyson Kruse and Clinton Jones. The Colts came home in the final term after going to sleep for a while. The Elite Appliances Award went to Brett Casterton followed by Jacob Sheldon-Collins, Brad Walters, Paul White, Connor McCafferty and Shane Davidson. Congratulations to our Junior Club with a Premiership for the Under 14 D’s. Great effort by all involved.
A great way to finish Dave Banfield’s Coaching at Terrara Road with three wins for the day. The senior game was spoiled by the rain, but the closeness of the scores kept everyone interested to the final siren. Ryan Mullett continued his brilliant season with another Best on Ground performance and took out the Craig Coghlan Award followed by Daniel Mendes, Robbie Ross, Alex Bull, Michael DellAquila and Grant McCarthy. The Reserves had an easy day and failed to nail a massive score by being wasteful in front of goal. The Perry Fletcher Award was won by Tyson Kruse. Followed by Clinton Jones, Ryan Henderson, Ashley Thompson, Marcus Tippett, Michael Sonsie and Jamie Rushton. The Colts game was very similar to the Reserves. The Elite Appliances Award was won by Brad Walters from Shane Davidson, Paul White, Jacob Sheldon Collins, Luke Strachan and Andy Hackett. Congratulations to three of our legends in Perry Fletcher, George Gislingham and Jack Murphy who received outstanding service awards from the EFL last week, what a wonderful contribution these three have made to our Club. Best of luck to our Under 14D boys tomorrow in the Grand Final. 12.30 at Ferntree Gully. SOCIAL: - Next Sat night after the Balwyn game we are back at Vermont to have a drink or two with Dave Banfield. Presentation Night is Friday 21st October and the Vermont Day at the Cranbourne Xmas Races is Sat Dec 3rd. If you are interested in Sponsoring one of the eight races, contact Rodney Haynes on 0408548001.
We were playing for pride last Saturday at East Ringwood and although the seniors just failed on the scoreboard, they did not fail in the pride division. They were outstanding. To have 9 changes from the week before and 8 of them forced, would have to have been a Club record. Congratulations to the three first gamers Michael Sonsie, Anthony Chiodo and Paul White (from the Colts) you were terrific. The Craig Coghlan Trophy went to Michael DellAquila for a super game. Other best were Ryan Mullett, Travis Bird, Grant McCarthy, Daniel Mendes, Dean Waller. The undermanned Reserves did manage to score a win with Jason Youseff playing a great game and winning the Perry Fletcher Award. Other best were Clinton Jones, Xavier Barry-Murphy, Anthony Thompson, Kalem Post. The Colts also had a very gutsy win with Connor McCafferty getting the Elite Appliances Award followed by Jacob Sheldon-Collins, Bryce Fisher, Andy Hackett, Tom Pretto and Brad Walters. The St.Kida Spinners Jet Boat Award went to Jason Youseff for his best game for the Club. Congratulations to former VFC champs in Todd Power and Matt “Spocky” Smith who will their 300 EFL & Rep games this week at the Basin. SOCIAL: - Presentation Night is Friday 21st October and the Vermont Day at the Cranbourne Xmas Races is Sat Dec 3rd. If you are interested in Sponsoring one of the eight races, contact Rodney Haynes on 0408548001.
As has been widely reported, David Banfield will not be Coaching in 2012 after 8 wonderful years including 5 Grand Finals and 4 Premierships. David advised the Club early in June that he did he was not going to continue next year as his family commitments were now going to be his priority. The Club is very appreciative of his outstanding contribution and will express that further at the end of this season.
Accordingly the Club will be seeking a Senior Coach for 2012 and beyond and will advertise the position shortly. Contrary to some rumours circulated in various forms of the media, the process to find a replacement has not commenced.
Not a good day last Saturday being outplayed in all three games and picking up some unfortunate injuries along the way. But that’s footy. The Craig Coghlan Trophy went to Mitch Bonuda, who is becoming a very important part of our defence. Other best were Ryan Mullett, Lachlan McKirnan, James McLure, Robbie Ross and Dan Mendes. The Reserves had a rare loss and just did not get going in their usual style. The Perry Fletcher Award was won by Alex Bull followed by Travis Bird, Clinton Jones, Anthony Chiodo and Andy Ellis. Colts got away to a bad start then caught up only to fail in final minutes. The Elite Appliances Trophy went to Nick Johnson. Other best were Matt Gould, Connor McCafferty, Shane Davidson, James Symes and Bryce O’Hara. Congratulations to young Matt Gould who was elevated from the U16’s and did very well indeed. Good luck to our Junior Club who again have five sides in finals tomorrow. SOCIAL:- Back to Wantirna Hill Club tonight in Members Bar. Some dates to put in your diary:- Presentation Night is Friday 21st October and th
YES, three wins last Saturday for a change. The Seniors were terrific under great pressure in third quarter to come back and then go on in final term for a excellent 27 point win. Our Coach David Banfield was a very happy and relieved man. He had put in a huge week and to his great satisfaction, the players responded. A big thankyou also for the support of some our champions past, particularly Garry Oakman for an inspiring contribution that did make a difference. The Craig Coghlan Trophy was won by Ryan Mullet in a photo finish from Matt Greig and Daniel Mendes. Matt Greig got the Spinners Jet Boat Effort of the day for his 6 goals. Other best were Grant McCarthy, James McLure, Dean Millhouse, Mark Griffiths. Special mention to Ash Froud for his contribution after weeks on the sidelines. The Reserves had a hard fought win without any real spark. The Perry Fletcher Trophy went to Alex Bull, from Matt Geraghty, Trav Bird, Anthony Chiodo and Clinton Jones. Colts had another huge win but will have some real opposition today against Blackburn. The Elite Appliances Colts Best Player was won by James Symes from Nick Mendes, Jacob Sheldon-Collins, Paul White, Shane Davidson, Lucus McCullough. SOCIAL:- The Sportsnight last Wednesday night was a massive success and our thanks go to all those who continue to support us.
The long trip to Noble park had mixed Results. Seniors down, Reserves and Colts flying. Highlight was the debut in the Seniors of our Colts Captain Nick Johnson. And he did OK. He is pictured left.
Following the sudden cancellation of our Annual Sportsnight on the 8th June due to a massive power blackout, we are very pleased to announce that we have rescheduled the event to the 20th July, thanks to the wonderful co-operation of the panel members.
BRIAN TAYLOR, JAMES BRAYSHAW and BILLY BROWNLESS
After many years of defeating our oldes opponent, the wheel has turned and we lost for the second time this year. Highlight of Reserves game was big San Groth who just gets better each week. See him left.
Three wins in a row is pleasing to all and a huge contributor last saturday was Tom Carmody, who after a restricted start is playing his best footy.
To win at Croydon was a rare treat as e had not done so since 2006. We also had not seen the ground in such good condition for about that long as well. With tree wins it was a pleasant day indeed. Left:- Daniel Mendes being interviewed after the game.
Finally the seniors produced what they have been threatening for weeks, and hopefully that will be the start of bigger things. Three great wins was a tonic for us all. The Past Players day must have done the trick. The new boys left got the usual treatment.
Matt Greig has had plenty of accolades over the years as he sets record after record booting an incredible 658 goals in his 149 games and of course playing in 4 Senior Premierships. This Saturday vs Balwyn he plays his 150 Senior game for Vermont, a Milestone he is very proud to have achieved. Our Football Club is also very proud to have had such a fine champion represent us. We wish him well for another big game.
CLOSE BUT NOT CLOSE ENOUGH. The boys put in a mighty effort aginst the undefeated Blackburn on a ground we have had little success in recent times. The Captain Ryan Mullett was outstanding.
It was certainly not the result we went to Knox for. Badly used the ball and found every way not to kick a goal. BOG Robbie Ross pictured left.
Brave but not good enough in the end. Don't forget if you want the full detailed Match Report you will need to be a Member. Ring the Manager if you are a Member and would like it sent to you each week. Pictured left id the BOG for the day Mitch Bonuda.
Not a good day at the office in terms of final scores. The Seniors were very impressive for three quarters and looked if they might pull off a huge upset. Unfortunately they were not able to contain the talented Magpies in the final term.
After a summer of kicking that gridiron ball about (and very well we understand), Matt Greig is ready to resume one of the most incredible careers in EFL history :- 8 years, 5 Grand Finals, 4 Premierships, 653 goals in 146 games at an average of 4.5.
The 108th meeting of our two Clubs did not go our way and the Richardson/Bidstrup Shield after 4 years finally went to East Burwood. Our two Clubs are the only two to stay in first division over the 50 year journey and it was fitting that we played off in the first game of this special season.
Sat 2nd April will be our final practice match. We will have three games vs East Ringwood at East from 10am
The players have taken on the task of raising some cash for the Good Friday Appeal. So if you see them with a tin, please give generously.
Last Sunday was a great day thank to the hospitality of the Hampton Park Football Club and the competition from our friends at Old Scotch
Our first series of Practice Matches start this weekend against Old Scotch played at Hamton Park
Friday, 11 March – 10am
A great supporter of our Club over many years, "Beepa" will be sadly missed. Deepest sympathy to Gloria, Peter & Family. He was a lovely bloke in every way.
Last Saturday 7 of our players competed in a Pre Season Biathlon and would believe we won with young Xavier Barry - Murphy taking out the individual prize.
Our Summer Mini News is out and about. See the attached PDF
