The Captain was again at his best leading a young Vermont team to the Grand Final. Ryan demonstrated all the skills of the game and very much deserved his second Chandler Medal. Young Connor McCafferty won the Under 19 Competition Award as well.
The Vermont Captain was oustanding all year with his great speed and skill. He has worked on his footy every year he has been at Vermont and should be an example to all of our players. He wins the Club's sixth Medal in a row.
Kris Bardon’s Back to Back Chandler Medal win assure him a place in EFL history, but also gives the Club five wins in five years. A record that only Vermont has a realistic chance of breaking for years to come.
He had difficulties early in the year after surgery in summer and struggled to get back to his 2008 form. He found himself starting in defence to avoid the inevitable tagger, as the opposition had worked out that the combination of Bardon, Greig and Froud would destroy them.
Like a true Champion, Kris found a way back and finished the season in fine style and we started to see those perfect passes to the forwards we have been used to over the past 5 years.
His final series, although not counting for the Chandler Medal, were outstanding and he played a major role in a season that will long be remembered. Bardo’s off field work also contributed to the players reversal of form earlier in year and the resolve that this group of players could go all the way.
Kris also is a wonderful mark overhead, a catching skill he uses as a wicket keeper with District Club Fitzroy Doncaster. Bardo has also matured and developed as person and his support of Ryan Mullett as Vice Captain has been outstanding.
Kris deserves this honour and the Club can be very thankful he has made Vermont his home.
In his second year from Tasmania, Nathan dazzled the opposition and the umpires with some fantastic games of footy to win the 2007 EFL Chandler Medal.
. His high marking, fearless aggression and play on style being a big feature of his talents. Although picked on a wing each week, his desire for the footy could take him anywhere.
The 2007 Grand Final was no different and he was voted Best on Ground. Nathan has played a major role in the Club’s recent success.
After two A Grade Amateur medals, Bernie came to Vermont in 2005 with a huge reputation. He has lived up to that and more. With two Chandler Medals, he joins some great Vermont players.
He is a small onballer with incredible desire for the footy or anyone with the footy. No one has seen a rover in the EFL tackle like Bernie. Unfortunately a bad shoulder injury prevented him completing the Premierships double.
Bernie has not just played footy at Vermont, he has added his own brand enthusiasm and vitality. Let’s hope we see him back in 2008 after his world trip.
